What is Nordic Walking?
Nordic Walking was developed by cross-country skiers in order to keep their upper body fit during summer months. It uses poles with a technique designed to engage muscles in the upper body, improving overall fitness and propelling the walker. It’s a very different fare to normal walking or trekking. The use of the poles reduces pressure to lower limb joints, up to 40%, and tension to the neck and shoulders. This means the walker will work harder, but the experience will feel easier.
